What Is Herping?
Herping Simply put, Herping is the act of looking for reptiles and amphibians in the wild. Where did that word even come from? As far as words go, it sounds a bit silly doesn't it?
Where did the word Herping come from? Herping is derived from the term Herpetology, which is the branch of zoology that is concerned with the study of reptiles and amphibians, and the words Herp and Herptile are often used in place of reptile or amphibian. A person who studies herps is referred to as a Herpetologist, and a person who is herping is called...you guessed it...a Herper! Whew! Now that we've gotten those new terms in our vocabulary, let's move on to the fun bits!
